Beaucarnea Recurvata (Ponytail Palm) 9"
Scientific name: Beaucarnea recurvata
The slow growing, long lived Ponytail Palm is not a true palm, but is actually distantly related to the asparagus. This unique tree makes a novel addition to your houseplant collection, with a tuft of leaves poking out of the thick stem (the thick, bulbous part at the bottom of their trunk that holds water is called a caudex).
Light: Full sun, though it can tolerate bright indirect light. Choose the brightest, sunniest window for the Ponytail Palm.
Water: Water regularly but do not overwater. Allow soil to dry somewhat between waterings. The caudex stores water so it doesn't need as much as you think. Using a well draining mix (like a cactus/succulent mix augmented with some peat) will keep your Ponytail Palm happy.
